NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH!

NaNoWriMo challenges aspiring authors to knuckle down and write 1883 words per day, with an end goal of completing a 50,000 word draft of a novel by month's end. The Library invites local writers age 13+ to accept the challenge and join us.
The Public Library’s annual celebration of aspiring local authors begins Friday, November 1st and continues all month long.  NaNoWriMo Kickoff & Registration Friday, November 1, 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Solarium, Main Library 201 North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon Open to patrons age 13+   Stop by to tell us about your novel project, register for NaNoWriMo and claim a free NaNoWriMo Writer’s Kit* compliments of the Friends of the Library.    *NaNoWriMo Writer’s Kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last to patrons registered with the nanowrimo.org program. If you aren’t yet signed up, no worries-- Library staff will assist you at the event.  Additional NaNoWriMo Activities in November:  Authors Anonymous Meetups Thursday, November 7, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Multipurpose Room, Main Library 201 North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon Open to patrons age 18+ A relaxed community workshop for adult writers from novices to published authors.   NaNoWriMo Finish Line Celebration Saturday, November 30, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Paragraphs Bookstore 229 S. Main Street, Mount Vernon Open to patrons age 13+ and advance registration required. Stop by Paragraphs to celebrate your hard work and collect your prize for finishing your NaNoWriMo project! We’ll talk about upcoming writing workshops at the Library and how you can continue your writing practice beyond November.     All Library programs are free and open to the public, although registration is required for some events.
