OUTREACH SERVICES
The Outreach Services Department delivers library materials and services to residents of the Knox County Library District who would otherwise have severely limited or no access to them. This includes:
- Elderly
- Home-bound
- Physically challenged
- Institutionalized
- Preschool or Daycare
- Amish Schools
- To and from library branches
The Outreach Department handles the Talking Book Service, in collaboration with the State Library of Ohio and the Regional Library for the Blind and Handicapped in Cleveland. Library service for the blind and physically handicapped in the United States is delivered through a network of libraries and agencies coordinated by the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS).
The Talking Book Program provides free recorded books, magazines and playback equipment to approximately 15,000 eligible blind, visually impaired, physically disabled, and reading disabled Ohio residents. The Outreach Department can also supplies applications for persons interested in the service.
